Welcome, March!

3 March 2009

More of that squinty-eyed smile from Q-zilla. She was mirroring the entire family’s mood on Sunday as we barbecued on the front porch, basking in the warm sun on the first day of March.

Papa flamebroiled the burgers while Roma ate them as fast as we could slap mustard on a bun.

Her toppings of choice – cheese, tomato and mustard. None of that “salad” for her, thank you very much. And since Mama’s a ketchup hater unless it’s for french fries or macaroni and cheese (yes, I admit it), I don’t even bother offering the red stuff. As a matter of fact, I usually don’t get it out with the other condiments since it doesn’t occur to me that any normal person would like it on their burger. It only makes an appearance when Eric spreads mayo and mustard onto his bun and then scratches his head in confusion because he knows a normal person would put out ketchup for hamburgers.

Our week is now going the way of most March months – with schizophrenic weather that nosedives one day and perks up the next. Today it’s in the low 60s, with occasional clouds that mosey on up the canyon. Last night saw a wild windstorm, which I happen to enjoy because it sounds like a jet is taking off when the wind rushes through the trees.

We decided to stay indoors most of today, for which I take full responsibility. Last night was a bust sleep-wise, so I’m playing the mama card and keeping the kiddos indoors while I indulge my shivering tiredness (I get really cold when I’m tired). However, I did my duty and provided my offspring (at least the one who can stand on her own and grasp a paintbrush) with creative play.

That would be lovely confectioner’s sugar icing (just water and sugar with food coloring) applied with cheer to my kitchen window. I have also assumed responsibility for the cleanup. Although if I leave it until tomorrow, it might end up disappearing if Roma continues to lick it as I found her doing just 5 minutes ago.

    Ketchup or mustard?

Well I’m quite fond of ketchup myself where as Jay is a mustard lover. I too like ketchup with mac n cheese although I admit I haven’t done that in quite some time.
