Vs to the Zs

Sadly, I don’t have all the photos from the epic Summer 2009 journey in the gallery for either our visit to Santa Clara or our Redding stay. The Santa Clara trip is missing some photos due to technical difficulties, and the Redding album doesn’t include many photos that were taken by the rest of the snap-happy family photogs during the trip.
However, I do have enough photos in my arsenal to outline our trip for you, and to memorialize the great road trip of 2009.

On July 29, Roma, Quincy, Nora and I met my mom in a dusty parking lot a few miles from Wrightwood. Jojo and Maureen were joining us for the drive to Santa Clara and our 4 day stay with the Zampedri grands (my mom’s parents).

A normal trip to Northern California involves a stop at Casa de Fruta and requisite time in the stocks for those travelers who talked the most on the drive up.

Our time at the Zs was highly enjoyable, and I was glad for a chance to spend several days with my grandparents who have not had much one-on-one time with Roma and Quincy in the past. Roma enjoyed her “Santa Clara” Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma (distinct from her “Michigan” great-grandparents Versluys), and especially her goofy Great-Grandpa who makes sticky buns and grows roses in the backyard (and in his ears, apparently). Quincy gravitated toward Great-Grandma because she served up sweets frequently and chased Quincy around the house (spryness is a prominent Zampedri trait – my mom plays a mean game of toddler tag).

We spent one afternoon and a couple days later had a barbecue dinner at Aunt Tina’s house – she of the large pool and hot tub where Roma went skinny dipping supervised by Aunt Lorie. It was great to visit with all three of my mom’s sisters and their respective spouses and kids (and dogs).
A highlight of the trip was our time with Aunt Cherie… but I’ll give that story its own space.
