RSS...Republican Secret Service?

Thankfully…no. RSS, short for Real Simple Syndication, is a web format that allows visitors to easily check for updates on websites that update regularly, such as this blog. RSS links that display content from these websites are known as feeds.

When feeds are combined with feed readers such as Google Reader you can easily see all the updated articles on multiple sites, without having to check each site individually.

I use FeedBurner to produce the RSS feed for this site, so I can track visitors and subscribers to the feed. If you follow the link above, you can learn about a handful of great feed readers, all free.

For those of you using Firefox or Internet Explorer 7, you might notice an orange icon, similar to the large one above, at the top of your window. Your web browser has a built-in RSS feed reader integrated into the program. Simply click on the icon to set it up.
