Little Mama
As Roma ate her mid-morning snack, she asked for a placemat for ‘Amen Baby’, her favorite stuffed doll/toy.
She carries that thing around the house like it’s a needy newborn. The doll is called “Amen Baby” because when you squeeze her middle, she says the Lord’s Prayer and ends with an emphatic “A-men”. It’s also important to clarify that it’s Amen Baby about whom Roma was concerned – as opposed to Amen Froggie. Amen Froggie says the same prayer when squeezed, but he’s much different. He’s a frog.
So, Roma asked for a placemat, and since I didn’t particularly feel like getting one at that moment, I fibbed and said Amen was sleeping and didn’t want to get up for a snack. Amen Baby was nowhere in sight, so I figured she wouldn’t be able to expose me for the liar I am.
Just moments later, I opened the front door and set the trash outside. I probably shut the door a bit too hard, since Quincy stirred a bit from her peaceful slumber across the room. However, Roma didn’t have any concern for her sister.
As I shut the door with a bang, I heard Roma say (in a mildly accusatory tone), “Mama, you wake Amen!”
Well, if she wasn’t awake before, she’s awake now.
I bought a much-needed lamp for our living room this morning, and just a few moments ago placed it on a side table. As I stood back to get the full effect, Roma hopped up and ran over to stand next to me.
“What do you think, Roma?”
With a clearly discerning eye, Roma answered, “cute, Mama.”
